Boy Scout Troop 673 Joe
Mohn’s Eagle Scout Project
“Trash Pickup at Terry
Time: 8:00 AM -3:00 PM
Welcome. My name is Joe Mohn and I am a Life Scout in
Troop 673 and I am hosting a Trash Pickup at Terry Hershey Park on November 15,
2014 as my Eagle Scout Project with Bayou Preservation Association. We will be cleaning Terry Hershey Park along
Buffalo Bayou and along Langham Creek as a part of SHAC’s Council Service Day/America
Recycles Day on Nov. 15. I have
separated the area into thirty-one, quarter mile segments and I hope to get 10
people per segment for a total of 310 people and your assistance will be most
helpful. There will be seven (7) Muster Points
(MP) with crew leaders to assist the volunteers and they will begin at Highway
6 and run West to East (see table). Each
location will have a pop up tent with crew leaders to assist the volunteers.
Each segment will be marked with wire
signs recycled from the upcoming election. This will help to identify the
segments and show where one begins and another ends. At each Muster Point there will be ample
supply of drinks, sunscreen, and supplies for your use. This project will be an all-day event from 8am
to 3pm with lunch being provided. We
will use two different trash bags; black bags for trash and clear bags for
recycle. A limited number of litter
grabbers will be available for use as well as gloves for all.
This project is one of four that I am working on for the
Silver Hornaday Award. The Hornaday
Award is “an Olympic Medal Bestowed by the Earth” as the Hornaday website puts
it. Scouts obtain the Hornaday Award for
completing conservation service projects.
