The Jackson Bayou watershed is located in eastern Harris County, east of Lake Houston. Covering 25 square miles, this is the watershed in the Crosby and Newport areas and has a population of approximately 9,694. With only 36 miles of open streams, Jackson Bayou flows into the San Jacinto River below Lake Houston.
Most of this watershed is still fairly undeveloped with some agricultural activity, however, it is still primarily a forested habitat. What is particularly interesting about Jackson Bayou is that it is relatively deep with steep side slopes (unusual in Harris County) and therefore, drains rapidly.
