Guatemala Parade promotes environmental awareness

Bayou Preservation Association participated in the 4th Annual Guatemalan Day Parade on December 17, 2017, in partnership with the parade organizer, the Centro Organizativo Guatemalteco. The parade route crossed Bering Ditch, a tributary of Buffalo Bayou and unfortunately one of the most polluted waterways in Houston. Our vision and hope is that, with community input, this natural resource can be restored to a condition that will make it a welcoming and healthy place for a diversity of people and wildlife.

Bayou Preservation Association and Student Conservation Association volunteers collected trash allong the parade route inviting onlookers to do so as well, and distributed information on how pollution in the Bering Ditch reaches bayous in the area and eventually endangers the health of Galveston Bay.

The Houston Chronicle and Katy News each published stories on the event. We thank our volunteers for once again contributing to a healthier environment and Centro Organizativo Guatemalteco for inviting us to participate.
