The Addicks Reservoir watershed is located in western Harris County on the  north side of Interstate 10 with a small portion of the watershed extending into eastern Waller County. It is situated between Sam Houston Tollway and Barker-Cypress Rd., just north of Clay Rd. The reservoir is divided by State Highway 6 from north to south.  Authorized by the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1938 along with Barker Reservoir and built in the 1940s to alleviate the downstream flooding risks of Buffalo Bayou, the current storage capacity of Addicks Reservoir is 201,000 acre feet (248,000,000 m3). The primary streams flowing into the Addicks Reservoir are Bear Creek, Horsepen Creek, South Mayde Creek, and Langham Creek.

Bear Creek Pioneers Park, also known as Bear Creek Park, is a 2,168 acre park located within the Addicks Reservoir watershed. A great recreational area for families, it is heavily wooded and is known for abundant wildlife and features walking trails, an equestrian trail, hundreds of picnic tables and grills, eight picnic pavilions, playgrounds, four lighted tennis courts, soccer fields, little league and softball fields, horseshoe courts, an aviary, and a small zoo. The aviary has owls, macaws, parrots, doves, pigeons, and peafowl. The zoo has rescued animals receiving rehabilitation; many are no longer able to survive in the wild due to injuries. There are bison, emus, donkeys, sheep, goats, deer, and pot-bellied pigs. The zoo is open seven days a week from 7am to 10 pm, is free, and has plenty of parking. Bear Creek Park has no entrance fee, but pavilions must be reserved ahead of time. Grills and picnic tables do not need to be reserved.
