About Us
For more than 60 years, Bayou Preservation Association (BPA) has worked to protect and restore the bayous and urban waterways that shape life in Greater Houston. What began as a grassroots effort to save Buffalo Bayou has grown into a trusted regional organization advancing watershed stewardship through science, collaboration, and on-the-ground action.

Today, BPA focuses on improving urban water quality at the tributary scale—where data, restoration, and community impact intersect. Our work centers on three core areas: standardized water quality monitoring, targeted tributary restoration, and building a field-ready workforce equipped to support long-term watershed management.

By translating data into action and connecting resources to areas of greatest need, BPA helps strengthen bayou function, reduce environmental risk, and support resilient communities across the Houston region. We work in close partnership with public agencies, academic institutions, industry, and local communities to ensure that improvements are measurable, durable, and aligned with regional water quality and resilience goals.
