Urban Water Quality
Bayou Preservation Association’s Urban Water Quality program improves understanding and management of Houston’s bayous through standardized monitoring and data-driven assessment. This work provides consistent, science-based information needed to evaluate conditions, track change over time, and inform restoration and watershed decision-making.

BPA conducts water quality monitoring at the bayou and stream scale using established protocols aligned with regional and regulatory frameworks. Data collected through this program supports identification of priority areas, pre- and post-project assessment, and coordination with public agencies and partners working to improve urban water quality.

By translating monitoring data into actionable insight, this program serves as the foundation for BPA’s restoration, stewardship, and resilient pathways; ensuring that efforts across the watershed are informed, targeted, and measurable.
Clear Creek Watershed Protection Plan Implementation
The Clear Creek Watershed Protection Plan Implementation Project supports urban water quality by carrying out education and stewardship-based management measures identified in the Clear Creek WPP.
Led by Bayou Preservation Association, the project targets areas with elevated bacteria levels through public education, installation of pet waste stations, and Texas Stream Team training; implemented with support from the Galveston Bay Estuary Program in partnership with the City of Friendswood.

Four Parks
The Four Parks Water Quality Monitoring Project supports urban water quality assessment through standardized, recurring monitoring at select Houston park sites where nature-based techniques have been applied.

As a project partner to the Student Conservation Association, Bayou Preservation Association trains SCA interns in Texas Stream Team water quality monitoring protocols and conducts monthly monitoring at Houston Parks and Recreation Department sites. Data collected through this effort helps track site conditions over time and supports ongoing evaluation and management.
