Cross-Cutting Efforts

Our Cross-Cutting efforts are geared towards helping guide and develop our educational/networking mixers and events, our annual gala, and other in-person occasions.

The Special Events committee helps guide implementation of the Association’s calendar of Special Events. This includes everything from budget to venue selection, guest list to guest RSVPs. They also support the event by generating leads for auction items, vendors, ticket sales, and day-of volunteer activities.

The purpose of the Symposium Committee is to organize, implement and facilitate an annual day- long symposium to advocate and educate the public on topics consistent with the Bayou Preservation Association mission and vision.

By participating in the City of Houston's Adopt-a-Drain program and using the BPA Reclaim the Drain kit, you can help prevent flooding and keep our neighborhoods, bayous, and waterways clean. Commit to keeping your drain and the surrounding area free of leaves and trash, by adopting a drain.

Together, we can keep our bayous beautiful and flood-free in Houston!

Did you know that over half a billion plastic plant pots were discarded in landfills in 2022? Bayou Preservation  is partnering with local plant nurseries and other organizations to help reduce plastic waste and keep our bayou clean. Pots for Plots is our, regionally recognized, initiative dedicated to finding alternative uses for single-use plastic pots, preventing them from contributing to landfill waste and polluting our waterways. These single-use plant pots will be collected at local businesses and organizations around Houston. The pots are given a new lease on life by being repurposed by conservation organizations, community gardens, and residents. By extending the life of these plastic pots, we can help reduce their environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.

At Bayou Preservation Association, we work to protect and restore Houston’s bayous through applied science, targeted restoration, and collaboration. By translating data into action and connecting resources to areas of greatest need, we strengthen bayou function, reduce environmental risk, and support resilient communities across the Houston region.
